Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) sponsors National Recovery Month every September. September 2011 marks its 22nd year. SAMHSA does this to raise awareness about addiction and mental health issues; and more importantly the notion that recovery from addiction is available and possible.
Recovery Month website says, “There are millions of Americans whose lives have been transformed through recovery. These successes often go unnoticed by the broader population; therefore, Recovery Month provides a vehicle to celebrate these accomplishments (2011).” Anyone can recover. People from all walks of life recover every day! We do not have a hopeless future unless we make it that way.
If you have not checked it out yet, check out their website; you can read inspirational stories, see the latest information on addiction and recovery and even order FREE resources like posters and the Recovery Month Kit.
An entire month to highlight RECOVERY; what a great way to show the world and each other how our lives have changed; and if we can recover anyone can!
